Supreme Court is against legislation to maintain its power, Khawaja Asif

Islamabad: Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has said that the Parliament will not tolerate anyone’s interference in its limits, the Supreme Court is against the legislation to maintain its power.

Speaking in the National Assembly, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said that we have enacted legislation before and are still doing it today, we want the justice system to be strong.

He said that the Army Chief’s remarks about the supremacy of the Parliament were welcome, there is more politics in the Supreme Court than we do, Prime Ministers were accused of enacting legislation to maintain their power.

During the session, PTI Member of Assembly Mohsin Leghari opposed the hasty passage of the Supreme Court Bill and said that the bill will be handed over to the committee for consideration. Parliament should not interfere in the work of the Supreme Court.

Prime Minister of Law Nazir Tard said that legislation is the authority of the parliament and sending the bill to the committee is the discretion of the parliament. We are not interfering, the Supreme Court is doing it in our work.
