New Delhi: The Indian Army was not yet able to cope with the death of 4 personnel in the firing that took place yesterday in the military base of the state of Punjab.
According to the Indian media, the statement released by the military spokesman said that a 20-year-old official was shot in the head at the military station in Bathinda and his official rifle was also lying nearby. The bloodied soldier was taken to the hospital but could not be revived.
The spokesperson of the Indian Army further said that the incident of firing that took place today seems to be a case of suicide in the initial investigation. At the time of the incident, other officials were sleeping who woke up after hearing the sound of firing.
The spokesperson of the Indian Army explained that today’s firing incident has nothing to do with the previous day’s firing in which 4 personnel were killed.
The Indian Army, which was reluctant to face the media on the firing incident that took place yesterday and despite the death of 4 army personnel, no details were provided to the media and today is also silent on the death of another officer.
However, the police said that at the time of registering the FIR of yesterday’s incident, the army had said that an eyewitness had seen unknown persons wearing pajamas near the attack site.
The FIR further states that one of the unidentified persons was carrying an INSAS rifle while the other was carrying an ax. The assailants fled to the nearby forest area after the incident.
It may be recalled that three days ago, an official INSAS rifle and 28 rounds were missing from the same military base and it is likely that the same weapon was used in yesterday’s firing.
So far, the police have not arrested or even identified the suspects of the shooting incident that took place yesterday, which has raised questions about the professionalism and competence of the Indian Army and the police.
