Washington: US Congressman Brad Sherman shared a post in which he warned Secretary of State Anthony Blanken about alleged “political vendettas” against “democracy in Pakistan” and specifically the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). What is it.
In an April 11 post, the California lawmaker asked Joe Biden to use U.S. diplomatic channels to urge Pakistani officials to investigate the alleged abuses and hold those responsible accountable.
“I urge the authorities to ensure that political figures who come forward or citizens who simply want to (protest) do not face anti-democratic consequences,” he said.
Brad Sherman’s ‘multiple cases’ filed against PTI chief Imran Khan, ‘alleged torture and sexual assault of political figures such as Shehbaz Gul and journalist Jameel Farooqui’, ‘use of force against Imran Khan’s hammams’ , identified “restrictions on freedom of expression” issues, including the arrest of anti-terrorism protests.
He also expressed deep concern over the statement of Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah that the PTI chief will be removed from the political arena. The post also mentioned the delay in elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and called it “another attempt to subvert the democratic process”.
