California: Instant messaging application WhatsApp is soon going to introduce a feature that will allow users to set the duration of their group chats. The end of will be able to determine
According to the leaked information regarding the app, the date set for the end of the group will prompt group members to delete old messages or the entire chat.
The purpose of introducing this feature is to solve the memory issue as the app consumes a large portion of the mobile’s memory due to storing previous messages.
This feature can help users organize their WhatsApp more efficiently by eliminating ‘zombie’ chats.
Using this feature will only delete messages from the user’s device that has set the expiration date of the group chat. Other members will have access to these messages until they delete them themselves.
A user flagged this WhatsApp update as currently being tested in the Google Play beta program.
Screenshots published on the website WhatsApp Beta Info show the ‘expiring group’ screen that will appear on Android devices.
This screen will have options for different time periods including one month, one week or right now.
