The imam was attacked with a knife during the Fajr prayer at the Umar bin Al-Khattab Mosque in Passaic County, New Jersey, USA.
According to the American media, the 65-year-old imam of the mosque, Syed al-Naqeeb, was injured in the knife attack, but his condition is out of danger.
American media have said that there were about 200 worshipers in the mosque at the time of the knife attack, the worshipers subdued the attacker and later handed him over to the police.
American media have also reported that the suspect who attacked the imam of the mosque has been arrested, identified as 32-year-old Serif Zorba.
The reasons for this murderous attack of the accused have not been revealed by the police.
The police will produce the accused in the local court on Monday.
