Karachi: Children suffering from thalassemia, hemophilia and other blood disorders are at risk due to a 70% drop in blood donations during the month of Ramadan.

Prof. Shahid Rasool, Executive Director of Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Center, told “Express” that blood donations have decreased by about 70% during the month of fasting, due to which children suffering from thalassemia and other blood disorders have to donate blood. Shortage of women and citizens injured in accidents has made it difficult to get blood and patients’ lives have been put at risk.

In this regard, the Executive Medical Director of Muhammadi Blood Bank, Dr. Maysa Sajeel, said that in general, there is a notion among people that it is not correct to donate blood while fasting because it will make them weak and they will be unable to fast. Don’t be

He said that in the month of fasting, where every person tries to earn more good deeds, keeping this in mind, citizens should not miss the opportunity of this ongoing charity, to donate blood once. It is possible to treat patients suffering from three blood disorders.

Dr. Maisa Sajeel said that people who meet the conditions of donating blood should donate blood, donating blood has positive effects on health, blood pressure remains normal, the heart is supplied with clean blood. , whereas within two days the blood is regenerated.

He further said that managing the rare blood group O-Negative is quite difficult even on normal days, but this difficulty increases many times during Ramadan, due to which hours are spent in searching for O-Negative and in such a situation. People suffering from thalassemia and hemophilia become extremely difficult as they require blood transfusions.

He said that blood can be donated even in Ramadan, as long as the blood donors do not let their body lack water and salts, use water and alcoholic beverages as much as possible and try to eat such food during Suhr and Iftar. Which has more water content.

The parents say that the government should establish health care centers for these diseases in Sindh as well so that families like ours from Sindh do not have to come to Karachi for treatment.
