Edinburgh: Scientists have developed a new DNA-reading test that can predict a person’s type 2 diabetes years in advance.
Experts have been saying for a long time that DNA in the blood can give early warning of diabetes. For this, DNA methylation has been studied in which a molecule of methyl group binds to DNA or protein and affects it.
Under this process, in the first phase, 15,000 people have been screened and their risk of diabetes has been noted. But with this test, it can be known many years before whether someone is suffering from this disease or not. Risky people can also avoid it with safety and caution.
Scientists from the University of Edinburgh used a model in which ten thousand people were included, of which one in three people was at risk of type 2 diabetes after ten years.
The model was then tested on 449 people who were compared with a conventional model for risk of type 2 diabetes. Finally, scientists conducted a large survey of 14,613 people.
Years later, scientists found that people who had been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes by the test had a higher rate of developing the disease. In this way, the data of thousands of people has shown that this test can detect or warn of the danger of this disease many years earlier.
It is expected that in this way we can keep the elderly healthy by not only preventing type 2 diabetes, but also reducing the increasing administrative and financial burden of this disease itself.
