Lahore: The High Court issued a written order on a petition filed to stop the advertisement of distribution of free flour, saying that distribution of food items by standing in queues is a violation of self-respect.

Justice Shahid Jameel of Lahore High Court issued a written order on the petition regarding the distribution of flour, according to which Article 14 of the Constitution talks about human dignity and respect. Article 14 of the Constitution should not be violated during the procedure of providing food and drink to the deserving people.

According to the written order, making people stand in lines and provide food and drink is tantamount to insulting self-respect. Media coverage of this division is like adding fuel to the fire. It is corrupt practice and bad faith to advertise your government performance with government fund. The Holy Qur’an also forbids personal publicity regarding the distribution of charity.

In the judgment, Quranic verses have also been made part of the court order, which states that the Holy Quran and the Constitution guarantee human dignity and respect. The procedure of distribution of food and drink should not be public in the media. Such distribution of food and drink in which human dignity and self-esteem is hurt should be stopped.

In a written order, the court said that according to the government advocate, 12.3 million deserving families have been identified in Punjab besides Benazir Income Support. Punjab government will give direct subsidy to these deserving families.
