Preparations to Ban English in Italy

Rome: A bill has been introduced in the Italian Parliament to ban the payment and use of English language words in Italy.

According to the report of the foreign news agency, under the new law presented by the ruling party of Italy, it has been proposed to make the use of English words punishable.

The new law has been introduced in parliament by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s brother, with the support of his brother. The proposed law proposes a fine of up to 100,000 euros for using words in English or other foreign languages in official Italian communications.

In the aforementioned legal draft, it has been proposed to stop the use of all foreign language words, however, the use of ‘Anglomania’ or the use of English language words has been described as “damaging and mortifying” for the Italian language. Even worse, the UK is no longer even part of the European Union.

The bill tabled in Parliament proposes to make “written and oral command of the Italian language” compulsory for anyone seeking government jobs and public administration.

The bill proposes that companies operating in Italy should also be obliged not to use English language words in official documents.
