Karachi: The court handed over the 8 suspects, including the factory owner, to the police on remand after the stampede during the distribution of Zakat.

Judicial Magistrate Gharbi has handed over 8 accused including the factory owner to the police on 5-day physical remand in the case of 12 people killed due to a stampede in a private factory in the site area.

In front of Judicial Magistrate Gharbi in the City Court, the trial of the death of 12 people due to a stampede in a private factory was heard, in which the police produced 8 arrested persons. The investigating officer said that the accused have to be interrogated, requesting that physical remand be given for 14 days.

The lawyer Safai gave arguments and said that no crime is committed against the accused, they should be acquitted. The accused did not do anything illegal. The factory owner, Abdul Khaliq, was not there at the time and has been arrested.

The court rejected the request to release the accused, handing over the other accused, including the factory owner, to the police on 5-day physical remand.

Earlier, the owner of the factory was arrested after the stampede during Zakat distribution in the factory. According to the police, a case of killing of 12 people, including women and children, was registered in the Site A police station on the government’s complaint, in which the owner of the designated factory, Abdul Khaliq, has been formally arrested. A case has been registered against 9 persons including 2 managers of the factory.

A case has been registered against the owner of the factory, Abdul Khaliq, along with other employees under the provisions of negligence and carelessness. According to the FIR, the factory management kept the police and district administration in the dark about the distribution of zakat. The watchman opened the small gate next to the main gate of the factory, women and children entered and a stampede ensued.

It should be noted that 12 people including women and children were killed while many others were injured due to a stampede during the distribution of Zakat, ration and other goods in a factory in the site area yesterday.
