Rawalpindi: Lal Haveli, the ancestral residence of former interior minister Sheikh Rasheed in Rawalpindi, was sealed, the Department of Abandoned Waqf Properties took action in the early morning with a heavy contingent of police.
Asif Mehmood, administrator of the Department of Abandoned Waqf Properties, said that the department has sealed 7 units including the Lal Haveli of Sheikh Rashid in Rawalpindi, while writing to the authorities to confirm the registry of one unit of the Lal Haveli. It will be decided not to.
Asif Mahmood said that Lal Haveli is government land which has been occupied for a long time.
A heavy contingent of police and officers of the district administration were present while sealing Lal Haveli. The endowment department has sealed all the entrance doors of Lal Haveli with official locks, the department will start further legal action from today.
On the other hand, former Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has decided to challenge the move to seal Lal Haveli in the Islamabad High Court.
Lawyers have been ordered to prepare a petition and the move will be challenged in two hours. In the petition, it will be requested to de-seal Lal Haveli and senior judge Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan will hear it.
Speaking to Express, Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed’s lawyer Sardar Abdul Raziq Advocate said that the footage and photos of the sealing of Lal Haveli have been obtained.
