More than 5,400 people living in Kuwait applied for asylum in other countries.
According to a report by the Kuwaiti think tank Arab Gulf Center for Education and Research, most of the asylum seekers are Bedouins.
120,000 Bedouins live in Kuwait, and asylum seekers include citizens of Ethiopia, Eritrea, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Lebanon.
Most of the asylum applications were made for Great Britain, Canada, USA, France, Germany and Scandinavian countries.
In 2022, Kuwait’s population was estimated at 4.4 million, with 70 percent being foreigners.
In 2018, 1,359 people applied for asylum, this number decreased to 565 in 2022.
During 2022, 254 Kuwaiti residents applied for asylum in European countries.
According to the report, 62 percent of asylum applications were rejected.
