Norway: Everyone knows that the lungs of children who open their eyes before conception during the nine months of pregnancy do not develop properly and they may have respiratory problems. However, it is now known that by middle age they may suffer from diseases like asthma and COPD.

In this context, 2.6 million people in Finland and Norway have been surveyed and followed up for several years. It has been found that chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma up to middle age (40 years). Risk remains. Whether it is COPD or asthma, both the airways are severely affected and breathing becomes difficult.

Babies born before 37 weeks are called preterm. And if the baby is born before 28 weeks, it is called extremely premature birth. Babies born this way have three times the risk of developing asthma and COPD compared to normal babies.

However, there may be a slight risk in babies at 37 and 38 weeks. This is confirmed by Dr. Kari Resnes of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and her colleagues. Now even if disease, smoking and pollution etc. are removed from it, this danger remains evident in its place.

The scientists took data on millions of people born in Finland from 1987 to 1998, while data on men born in Norway from 1967 to 1999 was looked at. During this time, 5 percent of the babies were born prematurely. Among them, 41,300 people who reached the age of 18 years had asthma and 2,700 people had COPD, which is a significant number.

Experts believe that these statistics cannot be ignored because of their statistical significance. Therefore, it is important that pre-term babies pay special attention to the respiratory and lung systems throughout their lives.
