Bahrain strongly protested by summoning the Iraqi governor

Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani is meeting with the Iraqi Governor.

Bahrain protested strongly by summoning Iraq’s governor for allegedly violating diplomatic etiquette.

The spokesman of Bahrain’s National Coordination Center, Mohammad Isa Al-Abasi, said that the Iraqi ambassador was summoned for breaching diplomatic etiquette and interfering in the country’s internal political affairs.

He said that the summoning of Iraqi Ambassador Moeed Abdul Rahman was not related to any business issue between the two countries.

The Bahraini spokesman welcomed the decision by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry to recall Ambassador Moeed Abdul Rahman back to Baghdad.

It should be noted that this is not the first time that Bahrain has reprimanded Iraqi diplomats.

In April 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain summoned the Iraqi governor of affairs posted in Manama on the statement of Iraqi leader Muqtada al-Sadr.

During December 2018, Nahad Rajab Askar, Deputy Director of Affairs of the Iraqi Embassy in Bahrain, was summoned by the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The call was made because Iraqi Prime Minister Noor al-Maliki met with the leader of a movement that Manama had declared a terrorist group in 2014.
