Violence against journalists in court premises;  Ordering the police to act quickly on the application

Islamabad: In the case of torture of journalists in the premises of the High Court, the court ordered the police to take quick action on the request of the journalists.

On the request of journalists to register a case, the Islamabad High Court ordered the police to take action according to law.

Advocate General Islamabad supported the filing of a separate case on the request of the journalists, after which the Islamabad High Court ordered that the police take into account Advocate General Islamabad’s position while taking action.

Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb heard the case registered against the Assistant Commissioner and police officials on the request of journalists. Lawyer Zahid Asif appeared before the court on behalf of journalists, while High Court Journalists Association President Rizwan Qazi and Secretary Hussain Ahmad Chaudhry also appeared.

Barrister Jahangir Jadoon said that the incident of journalists was separate, a separate case should be registered against the police, the police are the protectors of the citizens and cannot do anything outside the law.

Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb remarked that it is okay to ask the police to take action on this request according to the law, Advocate General Islamabad has also come to the stand and the police should also look into it and take action.

Advocate General Islamabad said that first the police has to file a separate FIR and the investigation process is later.

Barrister Jahangir Jadoon said that after filing the FIR, the police can give a report about it, when the incident is completely different, why is the police not filing the FIR?

Lawyer Zahid Asif said that the Justice of Peace has accepted our position and the police have also admitted, when the incident is completely separate, a separate case has to be registered.

The court disposed of the petition by ordering the police to act quickly as per the law. It should be noted that journalists Saqib Bashir, Zeeshan Syed, Shah Khalid and Idris Abbasi have filed the application.
