Security forces in Athens, the capital of Greece, arrested two young men for planning attacks on Israeli targets.
According to foreign media, Israel has accused Iran of planning the attacks, saying that Iran attempted terrorism against Israeli and Jewish targets abroad.
Greek police say the arrested suspects, aged 27 and 29, were planning attacks on Israeli-majority areas in central Athens.
According to the Greek police spokesperson, the suspects entered Greece illegally from Turkey 4 months ago, the suspects apparently belong to an overseas network.
According to the foreign news agency, the mastermind of the conspiracy lives in Iran, the accused has been charged in his absence.
According to foreign media, the targets of the suspects were a building that houses a Jewish synagogue and a restaurant. The Israeli intelligence agency Mossad assisted the Greek police in arresting the suspects.
The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office, on the other hand, cited Israel’s National Intelligence Agency as saying that after investigating the suspects in Greece, the Mossad helped dismantle the network’s intelligence and operational methods and ties to Iran.
Israel says the investigation also found that the cell in Greece was part of a vast Iranian network that extended from Iran to several countries.
