England: Plastic is responsible for a wide range of adverse human health effects, including cancer, lung diseases and birth defects.
Analysis of plastic fragments dumped in the plastic manufacturing process, landfills, and oceans has revealed that plastic that comes into normal daily use can cause deadly diseases over time.
The aforementioned study was conducted by the Boston College Global Observatory on Planetary Health in the United States in partnership with the Mindero Foundation of Australia and the Center Scientifique de Monaco.
The review found that the production, use and disposal of plastics is dangerous, yet global production of plastics continues to rise.
Research has also found that low rates of recovery and recycling and the long-term presence of plastic waste in the environment have further increased the damage caused by plastic. Coal miners, oil workers and gas field workers who extract fossil carbon to produce plastics are at higher risk.
