Judicial reforms delayed after worst protests and strike

The ongoing protest in Israel

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has postponed the judicial reform plan until next month.

The Israeli Prime Minister has expressed his willingness to stop progress on judicial reforms.

After the government’s decision, the Israeli labor union has announced the end of the nationwide strike.

Against the reforms, the head of the National Labor Union announced a general strike that suspended flight operations from Ben Gurion Airport, the port, banks, hospitals and medical services.

According to the foreign news agency, Netanyahu said two days ago that he will not stop the reforms.

But today President Isaac Herzog called for an immediate halt to legislation on judicial reform for the sake of the unity of the Israeli people.

President Herzog said that I appeal to all the factions of the Parliament, coalition parties and the opposition to consider the citizens of the country above all else.

He said that without further delay, show responsibility and courage, come to your senses, this is not a political moment, it is a moment to show leadership and responsibility.

This appeal by President Herzog came at a time when Prime Minister Netanyahu fired Defense Minister Yaf Gallant last night, which led to increased protests in the country.

The defense minister had said that he would not support judicial reforms if the coalition parties did not reach a broad consensus.
