Karachi: A brutal monkey-sharing of Karachi’s development funds has been revealed in the Sindh Local Government Department, where project officers of the local government paid Rs 10 crore to the contractor without starting work on the development project.
According to Express News, the officers of the local government project paid 10 crores to the contractor without starting the work on the project costing more than 21 crores. The negligence, carelessness and corruptions of the project officers were uncovered.
The Monitoring Evaluation Cell (MEC) of the Planning and Development Department of the Sindh Government has exposed the misappropriation of public funds, corruption and incompetence of the officials of the Sindh Local Government Department in its investigation report, according to Sindh Local Government Secretary Najam Ahmad Shah. The officers of the Local Government Project Department working under supervision have paid an advance of Rs 10 crore to the contractor without starting the work on the project costing more than 21 crores for the construction of roads along the Lyari Expressway.
Sources say that the said contract was given to a firm named GM Enterprises, sources say that the local government project officials have focused on payments instead of focusing on development work.

Meanwhile, a team of the Department of Planning and Development (MEC) monitoring the development work visited the said project and it was revealed that only 1% of the development work has been done on the site while 45% of the funds have been paid to the contractor which amounts to Rs 10 crore. . Sources say that advance payment cannot be made to the contractor, yet the officers of the Local Government Project Department have made a new history of nepotism by paying 10 crore rupees to Karachi’s development funds as loot.
In the ongoing alarming report of the Monitoring Evaluation Cell of P&D, even one percent of the development work done on the said project has been declared as non-standard and unsatisfactory and in this regard the MEC has submitted its report to the Sindh Local Government Secretary. Najam Ahmad Shah, on which a letter has been sent to the PD Local Government Project on the direction of the Local Government Secretary.
Urban circles say that the Department of Planning and Development Department’s Monitoring Evaluation Cell is taking good action by fearlessly identifying the poor development work and the alleged corruptions of billions of rupees in the name of development projects, urban circles and senior contractors. Supreme Court, Transparency International, NAB, Anti-corruption, including Chairman People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, Chief Secretary Sindh Sohail Rajput, Minister of Local Government Nasir Hussain Shah on the corruptions committed in the name of development projects in Sindh Local Government Department. It has demanded immediate notice from other authorities and strict action against those responsible for misappropriation of development funds.
It should be noted that earlier the MEC had declared projects costing more than 12 billion in other districts of Sindh including Karachi as non-standard and unsatisfactory, senior officers and contractors say that the development of Karachi is being played with. If immediate notice is not taken, billions of development funds will continue to be distributed in the same way. In this regard, despite efforts to get his position, it was not possible to contact Secretary Local Government Najam Shah.
