Irfan Meraj and other Kashmiri journalists and human rights activists should be released, Ali Raza Syed

Chairman Kashmir Council European Union Ali Raza Syed has demanded the early release of journalist Irfan Meraj and other Kashmiri journalists and human rights activists who were arrested in Occupied Kashmir by the Indian authorities.

Kashmiri journalist Irfan Miraj was arrested by the Indian National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday in Srinagar on false charges in a three-year-old terror funding case.

A Delhi court on Wednesday remanded them in NIA custody for 10 days under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

Expressing a strong reaction to the arrest of Irfan Meraj, Chairman Kashmir Council EU Ali Raza Syed said that the allegations leveled against Irfan Meraj are false and we strongly condemn this nefarious Indian action.

They demanded that the Indian authorities immediately release Irfan Miraj and other Kashmiri journalists and human rights activists.

Chairman Kashmir Council EU further said that we strongly condemn the implementation of ‘UAPA’ on media person Irfan Meraj. This act is an abuse of power by the Indian authorities and a violation of freedom of expression.

It should be remembered that Mary Lawler, the United Nations Special Representative for the Protection of Human Rights and Akar Patil, the head of the Amnesty International Board in India, and the officials of the Indian Press Club Journalist and Federation of Kashmir also expressed their deep concern over the arrest of Irfan Meraj. Demanded immediate release.

It should also be remembered that three other famous Kashmiri journalists Asif Sultan, Sajjad Gul and Fahad Shah are already in Indian jail on trumped-up charges.

Apart from them, the internationally known human rights defender Khurram Pervez is one of the Kashmiri human rights activists who are facing difficulties in Indian jails on false charges.

Ali Raza Syed said that these arrests are being made to spread fear and panic among the people of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, but the brave Kashmiri people will not be afraid of India’s state terrorism.

Indian authorities cannot silence the Kashmiri people and their right to self-determination cannot be suppressed by such inhumane acts.
