Chennai: Australia beat India by 21 runs in the third match of the three-match ODI series to win the series 1-2.
In the third match played in Chennai, Australia batted first and scored 269 runs in 49 overs. In reply, the Indian innings was restricted to 248 runs thanks to the hard work of the Kangaroos.
Earlier, Australia won the toss and decided to bat first. Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh gave the Kangaroos a stand of 68 runs. Hardik Pandya fell victim to Travis Head scoring 33 runs. Captain Steven Smith was already stumped by the ball. This time also the bowler was Pandya. The wicket of Australia’s third top batsman Mitchell Marsh also fell to Pandya. He scored the highest 47 runs.
No player could score a half-century in the Australian innings and wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Finally, at the end of the 49th over, the Kangaroos’ innings was reduced to 269 runs.
On behalf of India, Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav dismissed 3 and 3 players while Mohammad Siraj and Akshar Patel got 2 and 2 wickets respectively.
In response, the Indian innings was not much different from the innings of the Kangaroos. Apart from Virat Kohli, no other batsman has crossed the 50 mark. Due to the nippy bowling and excellent fielding of the Kangaroos, the Indian batsmen could not play openly and the entire team was bowled out by scoring 248 runs.
For Australia, Adam Zampa took 4, Ashton Agar 2 and Marcus Stevenson and Shane Abbott took one wicket each.
Adam Zampa was awarded the Man of the Match award while the Man of the Series award went to Mitchell Marsh.
