Britain has appointed Simon Walters as its new ambassador to Israel, with current ambassador Neil Wigan moving to another country.

Neil Wigan tweeted: “I’m delighted (and a little sad) that Simon Walters will replace me as British Ambassador to Israel this summer.

“I’m jealous of Simon’s better Hebrew,” he said.

Simon Walters was already learning Hebrew to play the role.

He has also served as Director of National Security in the Middle East and Africa Desk at the British Foreign Office.

He also worked at the British Consulate in Jerusalem from 2008 to 2011.

Apart from this, Simon has also been posted in Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Yemen.

His predecessor Wigan was the British Ambassador to Israel for the past 4 years.

Simon Walters will take over in August this year.
