Illinois: According to American experts, turning off the smartphone while sleeping and dimming the light can reduce the risks of gestational diabetes in pregnant women.
Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that occurs during pregnancy and affects about five percent of pregnant women. Most pregnancies are normal and things return to normal after the baby is born, but this condition is associated with premature births and births of babies of abnormal size and in women with type 2 diabetes. It is very dangerous.
According to a study, women who are exposed to more light up to three hours before going to bed have a higher risk of gestational diabetes.
In the study, researchers studied 741 women who were in their second trimester of pregnancy. They were fitted with a device on their wrists that measured the amount of light they were exposed to for seven consecutive days.
The study looked at how much time women spent in dim, bright light (10 lux) in the three hours before bed. The device also measures the time spent in dim light.lux is a unit of light intensity.
The researchers divided these women into three groups. Women who had the most regular light exposure (an average of one hour and 19 minutes) were five and a half times more likely to develop gestational diabetes.
