New York: United Nations General Secretary Antonio Guterres has said that we all have to stand against discrimination against Muslims and Islamophobia.

Last year, March 15 was designated by the United Nations as “International Day to Combat Islamophobia”, which means that every year March 15 will be celebrated as the International Day against Islamophobia.

The decision to celebrate this day was taken after the approval of the resolution presented by Pakistan and OIC in the United Nations. The resolution said that the desecration of the Qur’an, the profane sketches of the last Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and insulting words about Islam had hurt the sentiments of the Muslim world.

The resolution said that not only the sentiments of Muslims are being hurt, but discrimination is also being perpetuated through Islamophobia, against which the United Nations needs to take action.

The International Day Against Islamophobia is being celebrated for the first time today on March 15, 2023 after the adoption of the resolution in the United Nations. Actions against Islamophobia will be reiterated and ceremonies will be organized on this day.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres wrote on Twitter that the first International Day Against Islamophobia calls for action to end the poison of anti-Muslim hatred.

António Guterres further wrote that we all must stand up against discrimination against Muslims and Islamophobia. Today and every day we must resist the forces of division by reaffirming our common humanity.
