Karachi: The Sindh Education Board expressed its conditional willingness to hand over the examination system to a private company due to government pressure.

According to Express News, the chairmen of the education boards have agreed to partially hand over the assessment of only one or two subjects to a private IT company, but if this decision is finalized, it will be applied instead of the current one. It has also been suggested to do it from the 2024 exams to be held for the next academic session.

This was agreed in the Chairman’s Board meeting held in Karachi on Tuesday afternoon. Chairman Larkana Board Naseem Memon, who proposed handing over the examination system to a private party in the name of out-service, participated in this meeting online.

In the meeting, a suggestion came out from his side that if there is more pressure from the Department of Universities and Boards in this regard, it would be better that the demand for payment of funds for enrollment and examination fees will be placed before the department first.

According to the sources, it was decided in the meeting that since no one is aware of the professional competence of this private company and the current Act of the Boards does not allow the examination system to be outsourced, if the concerned department in this regard Or if there is more pressure from the Ministry or if any legislation is passed, copies of physics and chemistry subjects of class 9th and 11th can be given to them for assessment (e-marking) on a trial basis.

Since the exams are very close now and only one month of Ramadan is left in between, the legal requirements for issuing the tender will not be fulfilled till the exams, so if necessary, this decision should be applied for the exams of the next session. It was decided in the meeting that the above decision should be informed to the Department of Universities and Boards in an upcoming meeting.

A member who participated in the meeting said that it is still not clear how e-marking will be possible on descriptive questions and answers in the current paper pattern.

It should be remembered that the Department of Universities and Boards has issued orders to the education boards through a letter a week ago in relation to the outsourcing of the examination system in Sindh and has asked them to issue a tender in this regard from their own funds and reduce the funds. If it happens, the department should be informed in this regard, while there is strong opposition in this regard from the educational circles of Sindh.
