Boston: Fruits and vegetables are a treasure of health and nutrition and now a study has found that people with diabetes can live longer by eating fruits and vegetables to protect themselves from life-threatening diseases like diabetes, blood pressure and cancer.
Experts from the Harvard TH China School of Public Health have found out from a study that diabetic patients can reduce the risk of many diseases and increase their lifespan by eating low-carbohydrate foods instead of meat, fruits and vegetables. About 10,000 diabetic patients have been evaluated in this context.
During the long-term follow-up, a total of 900 people developed cancer and 1,400 people suffered from heart disease. Among those who adopted a low-carbohydrate diet, there was a significant reduction in all-cause mortality. All those surveyed were diabetic and were getting 30 to 40 percent of their calories from carbohydrates. Including white double bread and white rice and flour etc.
On the other hand, there were a large number of long-term diabetic patients who ate whole grains, fruits and vegetables frequently and had no signs of heart disease or cancer.
The summary of the research is that diabetic patients can improve their health and thus extend their life by eating fruits and vegetables.
