Rawalpindi: 10 accused including 3 doctors involved in illegal kidney extraction arrested

Rawalpindi: The police and the Punjab Human Transplant Authority took timely action on the information about kidney extraction in a private hospital, arrested 10 people including 3 doctors.

According to Express News, Rawalpindi Thana Morgah Police and Punjab Human Organ Transplant Authority raided a private hospital and arrested 10 suspects including 3 doctors involved in illegal kidney transplantation. During the raid, the hospital staff and doctors fled leaving the operation incomplete.

Operations were going on in the hospital since morning, in which a 65-year-old man, Iftikhar, died. The body of the patient who died during the transplant is still in the private hospital, which will be shifted to DHQ for post-mortem.

The arrested doctors were identified as Zahid, Athar and Abid Latif, other accused are Asrar Hussain, Arshad Mehmood, Shehzad, Shahnawaz, Muhammad Imran, Asim and Ansur Rehman. Around 2 crore cash was also recovered from the accused.

The police say that the arrested Dr. Zahid has a record in cases of extracting kidneys and selling them. The accused will be punished for their heinous act by being challaned with solid evidence.

According to the sources, four patients who illegally underwent kidney transplant from the hospital have also been detained. Ten patients were illegally transplanted in the hospital. Only one patient under treatment was transplanted after legal approval.

According to sources, foreign nationals are also included in illegal transplants, transplants of patients under treatment were done in the last 9 days, arrangements are being made to transfer all patients under treatment to BBH. The condition of two transplant patients is critical.
