Chinese President Xi Jinping has nominated Li Qiang as the Prime Minister of the country in the annual session of the Parliament.
Li Qiang, a former chief of the Communist Party in Shanghai, will succeed current Premier Li Keqiang.
Li Qiang, 63, is a close aide of the Chinese president, having served as Xi Jinping’s chief of staff from 2004 to 2007, when Xi was the party’s provincial chairman in the eastern province of Zhejiang.
Li Qiang was technically named prime minister in October last year as he was then given the second-highest post in the Politburo Standing Committee.
