Why are people afraid of clowns?

Wells: In a new study, scientists have tried to find out why people are afraid of clowns, which are designed to make people laugh.

Fear of clowns (known as cholorophobia) is widely found in adults and children around the world. In a new study recently published in Frontiers in Psychology, scientists from the University of South Wales analyzed data from an international survey of nearly 1,000 people from 64 countries.

The results of the research revealed that more than half of the people who participated in the study suffered from cholorophobia at some level. About 5 percent said they were extremely afraid of clowns.

According to research, over-designed facial features and hidden emotions due to makeup are the main causes of fear in people. Another reason that came up is the negative portrayal of clowns in dramas and movies.

Another reason cited by survey participants was the alleged unpredictable behavior of these clowns.

The researchers noted that fewer people reported personal horror experiences with clowns.
