Bahrain canceled the visas of Human Rights Watch representatives

Bahrain International Airport

Bahrain canceled visas issued to Human Rights Watch representatives to attend an international parliamentary conference.

This would be the first time since 2012 that Human Rights Watch (HRW) representatives would visit the Gulf country.

The 146th session of the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) will begin in Bahrain from Saturday.

HRW has permanent observer status at the International Parliamentary Union and its officers were issued visas earlier this year.

A few days ago, Human Rights Watch spoke to the participants of the conference to raise their voices against coercive measures against human rights in Bahrain.

The International Parliamentary Union (IPU) says that according to our information, the Bahraini authorities have canceled the visas.

The IPU spokesperson said that no visas were canceled for any delegation other than Human Rights Watch.

The foreign news agency reported that the Bahraini government’s liaison offices did not respond to queries on the matter.

A spokesperson for Human Rights Watch said its representatives have not been allowed to enter Bahrain since 2012.
