Rawalpindi: Multan Sultans defeated Peshawar Zalmi by 4 wickets to reach the play-off stage. Peshawar Zalmi became the first team to fail to defend a score of more than 240 twice.
In the 27th match of Pakistan Super League 8 played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Multan Sultans achieved the target of 243 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 19.1 overs.
On behalf of Multan Sultans, Riley Russo played a stormy innings of 121 runs off 51 balls and played an important role in the victory of the team. Kieron Pollard also made a big contribution to the victory by scoring 52 runs off 25 balls.
Khushdal Shah scored 18, captain Mohammad Rizwan scored 7, Shaan Masood scored 5 and Tim David scored 2 runs. Anwar Ali scored 28 runs and Usama Mir remained not out with 10 runs.
On behalf of Peshawar Zalmi, Azmatullah Umar Zai took 2 wickets while Wahab Riaz, Mujeebur Rehman, Arshad Iqbal and Saeem Ayub took 1 and 1 wicket respectively.
Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi won the toss and batted first and scored 242 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Captain Babar Azam scored 73 runs for Peshawar Zalmi. Saeem Ayub 58, Tom Koehler Cadmore 38, Mohammad Haris 35, Haseebullah Khan 7 and Rowman Powell were out after scoring 2 runs. Uzmatullah Omarzai scored 16 runs and Wahab Riaz returned to the pavilion not out after scoring 7 runs.
On behalf of Multan Sultans, Abbas Afridi took 4 wickets while Anwar Ali and Osama Mir took 1, 1 wicket.
