Brazzaville: Dozens of axe-wielding men attacked a village in the Central American country of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Villagers were beaten with sharp instruments and houses were set on fire.
The attackers also looted the settlement. 44 people were killed and many injured in the attack by the axe-wielding men. Among the dead and injured are women and children.
The bodies of those killed and injured in the village bore not bullet marks but deep sharp-edged wounds, indicating that the operation was carried out by the Allied Democratic Forces.
The Congolese army says the attackers belonged to the Ugandan militant group Allied Democratic Forces, which uses axes instead of weapons in such operations.
The Ugandan-based militant group Allied Democratic Forces claims to be an offshoot of ISIS and has been involved in attacks in Congo since 2013 that have killed 6,000 civilians.
