Washington: Experts have warned that half of the world’s population may be obese by 2035 if this trend continues and proper measures are not taken. This would create a variety of problems and cost the public or governments an additional $4.32 trillion annually.

The World Obesity Federation, an organization that monitors obesity worldwide, has released the ‘World Obesity Atlas’ 2023 after a detailed review. Under this, experts have predicted that if appropriate measures are not taken, in the next 12 years, one and a half billion adults and 40 million children will fall victim to obesity. Thus, the number of obese people on the planet can reach about 4 billion, which will be 51% of the total population.

The report has expressed concern that compared to adults, children between the ages of 5 and 19 are becoming obese at a faster rate and thus at an early age they may suffer from various diseases, including diabetes, blood pressure, Respiratory diseases and heart diseases are included. This is the reason why timely control of obesity is very important.

Dr. Professor Louis Bayer, associated with the World Obesity Federation, has asked governments and planning agencies to develop appropriate strategies to prevent obesity, especially among children, so that this monster can be stopped. Children are rapidly becoming obese due to a comfortable environment and an attitude of inactivity. He said that the burden of treating obesity, which causes other disorders, if seen in money, could be at least 4 trillion dollars. This amount will be equal to three percent of the global domestic product (Gross Domestic Product or GDP).

Experts have emphasized on simple diet, exercise, limiting TV and screen time, that consumption of fruits and vegetables can prevent not only obesity but also many other diseases.
