In Modi's India, land narrows on women, crime increases

Today, International Women’s Day is being celebrated all over the world, while in Modi’s India, India is at the forefront of women’s rights, exploitation and social discrimination.

Despite having 49% of the population in India, the representation of women in the Indian Parliament is only 11%, while the representation in employment is only 19%. The difference between women and men in the literacy rate is 20 percent, while the salary of professional women is 20 percent less than that of men.

From 2010 to 2022, the number of professional women declined by 7%, in 2022, 71% of the total 6 lakh crimes were against Indian women, 15.3% increase in crimes against women in 2022 compared to 2021, in 2018 India was among the most dangerous countries for women.

Among the problems faced by Indian women are sexual abuse, harassment and forced marriage at a young age.

31 thousand 677 cases of rape, 76 thousand 263 kidnappings and 30 thousand 856 cases of domestic violence were reported in the year 2021. According to India Today report, 80 percent of women travelers face sexual harassment every day. There are 86 cases of rape of women every day in India, of which Delhi tops the list with 6 cases.

According to UNICEF, 27% of girls in India are married before the age of 18, 15% of married women in India face divorce due to dowry demands, in 2017, 7,000 women were killed for not paying dowry.

On February 13, 2023, a mother and daughter were burned alive by state officials for not vacating their house in Kanpur, 2021 saw 14 acid attacks per month, but none of the perpetrators were punished.

Similarly, in 2012, a 23-year-old doctor under study was killed after being gang-raped in a moving bus in Delhi. In 2020, a Dalit woman was raped and killed in Uttar Pradesh. Acquitted. In 2014, a German woman was gang-raped, a Russian woman in 2018 and a British tourist woman in 2022.

In 2019, the United States issued a warning to its citizens against traveling to India in view of the incidents of sexual assault against female tourists. Increasing crimes against women, social discrimination and defamatory behavior are a slap in the face of Indian so-called democracy.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, international organizations will raise their voice on the serious plight of women in India.
