Tel Aviv: The Israeli cabinet approved a new law to allow Prime Minister-elect Netanyahu to keep a $270,000 gift he received from a late relative.
According to the international news organization, the High Court of Israel ruled last year that as Prime Minister, Netanyahu is not authorized to take a gift worth 270,000 from his late cousin and keep it at his disposal.
The court while ordering to deposit this gift in the government treasury said that there is a prohibition in the constitution for a government official to receive such a large amount of gift. This corruption will gain momentum.

It should be noted that Netanyahu was given this gift by his cousin to cover legal expenses in various fraud, breach of trust and bribery cases.
Netanyahu, Israel’s longest-serving prime minister, lost public support in 2021 due to corruption allegations and stepped down as prime minister after 12 years in power.

Since Netanyahu’s exit from the Prime Ministership, political instability has arisen in Israel, and despite four elections, no prime minister has been able to maintain his majority in parliament for more than a year and a half.
In the last election, Netanyahu succeeded to become the prime minister once again with the support of the hard-line Jewish party, but the case of taking a gift from his cousin was hanging over his head like a sword.

The cabinet then passed legislation to allow Netanyahu to retain the gift, which would allow government officials to accept donations to pay for legal or medical bills.
The attorney general of the country strongly objected to the approval of the bill by the cabinet and said that due to this bill, corruption will be promoted in the country and new doors of corruption will be opened.
