Protesters attack police training center, 35 arrested

A tractor working at the training center was set on fire by the protestors, police personnel are also present.

Dozens of people stormed the police training center in the US state of Atlanta on Sunday evening.

The protestors pelted stones at the training center, burst firecrackers, threw bricks and bottle bombs, the police arrested dozens of suspects.

At 5.30 pm, a group of people attacked after attending a function near the police training center.

Atlanta Police Chief Darren Scheerbaum said at a press conference that this was not a protest, but criminal activity.

Police officers did not take action until other law enforcement agencies arrived.

Later, 35 people were arrested and more arrests will be made after tracking down the attackers.

Both the police and the FBI have launched an investigation into the incident.

The Atlanta Public Safety Training Center was approved in 2021, with city government approving a 400-acre site for the center, of which 85 acres are under construction.

Civil society members are against the construction of this training center. They say that construction should not be done on forest land.
