US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has met King Abdullah of Jordan. The US Secretary of Defense arrived in Jordan on a visit to the Middle East yesterday. He will also visit Egypt and Israel.
He said in a tweet that he will meet with key leaders to reaffirm US commitment to regional security and discuss progress on issues of mutual interest with allies and partners.
Before the visit of the Secretary of Defence, the Department of Defense said in its statement that the threats posed by Iran to the stability of the region will be discussed in the visit.
Advances in multilateral security cooperation, air and missile defense systems will also be discussed.
A Defense Department official said Iran is arming, training and financing armed proxy groups.
In addition, maritime aggression by Iran, cyber threats, its ballistic missile program and drone strikes are also threats.
King Abdullah of Jordan said that in order to establish peace, there is a need to reduce the tension in the Palestinian territories and stop unilateral actions.
