Karachi: Pakistan International Container Terminal (PICT) has waived demurrage and storage charges worth Rs 4.5 crore to importers from December 2022 to mid-February 2023 amid the ongoing dollar crisis in the country.
PICT Commercial Head Raheel Monis, along with Planning Head Shujaat Hussain and Karachi Chamber Maritime Affairs Chairman Iftikhar Sheikh, said at the My Karachi exhibition at the Karachi Expo Center that PICT management will be in December 2022. Since the crisis started till now, it has been giving all possible facilities and concessions to the importers.
In response to a question, Raheel Munis said that so far 500 containers of food items have been released from PICT, the process of releasing containers is ongoing keeping in mind the availability of dollars and the arrival of containers of imported goods is continuing at the terminal. Is.
KCCI Maritime Committee Chairman Iftikhar Sheikh said that due to the dollar crisis, 6,000 import containers were stopped at the port. Currently these stalled containers are being released gradually.
