Dubai: In the United Arab Emirates, a court in Dubai gave a unique punishment to a criminal and shut down his internet in a fraud case.
According to details, a Dubai court has sentenced two African citizens to one month in prison, 44,000 dirhams fine and banishment from the country along with 6 months internet ban in a fraud case.
According to Emirates Illum, the court handed down the sentence in the absence of an accused, and the police are looking for an accused involved in the fraud.
A Gulf citizen had filed an application in court that he had advertised for a motorcycle on an online shopping site, only to be contacted by a man offering the desired motorcycle for Dh22,000.
According to the Gulf citizen, after the deal was done, the African citizen doubled the price of the bike under various pretexts and kept asking for money in the bank account.
When the Gulf citizen paid him 44,000 dirhams through a bank account, he asked for another 5,000 dirhams in the name of shipping fees, which the Gulf citizen suspected was a fraudster’s trap.
In the public prosecution, the accused said in the statement that the Gulf citizen’s claim is true, one of his friends had planned to grab the money by contacting the Gulf citizen on WhatsApp after seeing an advertisement on the Internet. The accused said that my job was to withdraw the money coming into the account and hand it over to a friend, on which he got a commission.
