Rich countries are harassing poor countries with 'evil tactics', UN

Doha: United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned the pressure put on the poor countries by the rich countries and said that the rich countries are harassing the poor countries with evil tactics.

Antonio Guterres, speaking at the summit on the development of poor countries in Qatar on Saturday, has said that rich countries are putting pressure on developing and poor countries to increase interest rates, their actions are reprehensible. .

The Secretary General of the UN said that the poor countries are going through the worst period of poverty, yet the behavior of the rich countries is not correcting. It seems that the rich countries designed the global financial system only for their own benefit.

He emphasized that rich countries should provide 500 billion dollars annually to help other countries so that they can come out of difficulties and their education, health and economic system can be improved.

It may be noted that the summit of the 46 LDCs is usually held every 10 years but since 2021 the summit has been postponed twice due to the coronavirus. Two of the poorest countries, Afghanistan and Myanmar, did not attend the meeting in Qatar’s capital, Doha, because their governments are not recognized by UN members, while the leaders of none of the world’s major economies attended.
