A 5-member joint investigation team consisting of officers from police and intelligence agencies has been formed for a high-level investigation into other important incidents including the suspension of flight operations at Noor Khan Airbase due to the unusual aerial firing on the occasion of Basant in Rawalpindi.
In Rawalpindi on the occasion of Basant on February 24, intense aerial firing and kite flying continued, due to which not only the normal flight operation at Noor Khan Airbase was suspended for several hours, but Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s convoy was delayed for three and a half hours.
Meanwhile, a blind bullet also hit the roof of the security vehicle included in the Prime Minister’s convoy at Noor Khan Airbase, which was taken into strict notice at the level of the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.
Apart from this, a case was registered against the unknown accused under Section 7 ATA of the Anti-Terrorism Act, Kite Flying Act and damage to property on the complaint of the Chief Protocol Officer of Noor Khan Airbase at Thana Airport.
On the other hand, Punjab Home Department formed a 5-member joint investigation team headed by Additional IG, Special Branch Punjab Zulfikar Hameed to investigate the case.
The team will include DIG National Accountability Branch Punjab Amin Bukhari, an officer from ISI and officers from the Intelligence Bureau while the team’s conveyor will also have the authority to include officers from any government agency.
It should be remembered that 3 people including two children were killed and more than 50 were injured due to aerial firing and kite flying on Basant in Rawalpindi. Two DSPs and SHOs of 3 police stations were also suspended on the notice of the Punjab government.
