Cash worth Rs 8 crore has been recovered from the home and office of a BJP member of the Legislative Assembly from the Indian state of Karnataka.
According to Indian media, MLA’s son was caught taking bribe.
The anti-corruption wing recovered Rs 6 crore from MLA Madal Veerupkashpa’s house and Rs 2.5 crore from his office.
His son Prashant Madal was caught accepting bribe yesterday.
The MLA is not being traced, however, he has filed a pre-arrest bail application.
Law enforcement agencies were searching for the said MLA till late last night.
Mudal Veerupakshappa, the chairman of state-owned Karnataka Soap and Surf Company, resigned this morning as the scandal unfolded.
His son is Chief Accountant in Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board.
While submitting his resignation to the Chief Minister of the state, Virupakshapa said that there is a conspiracy against my family.
Yesterday, the Karnataka anti-corruption officers arrested his son while accepting a bribe of Rs 40 lakh in the office of Soap Surf Company.
Three bags full of notes were recovered from the office and have been seized.
The ombudsman said that he had received a complaint against Prashant Madal demanding a bribe of Rs 81 lakh from a contractor for a deal on raw materials needed to make soap surf.
Prashanth Madal is a 2008 batch officer of Karnataka Administrative Services.
Anti-corruption says that a case has been registered, 5 people are in custody, including three who brought bribe.
