Lahore: The 51st anniversary of the famous ghazal poet, journalist and writer Nasir Kazmi is being celebrated today. As soon as his first collection of poetry was published, Berg made him one of the foremost poets of Urdu ghazal. There was a slow glimpse of what seemed to descend into the soul.
Nasir Raza Kazmi was born on December 8, 1925 in Anbala. After the partition of India, he settled in Lahore, could not complete his higher education, but started writing poetry in his youth. In 1952, his first collection of poetry, Berg, made him one of the foremost poets of Urdu Ghazal. Nasir Kazmi is one of the first architects of modern Ghazal.
Nasir Kazmi spent most of his life in teahouses and deserted streets telling stories at night. His best poems and ghazals are the essence of his experiences. Nasir renewed the ghazal and restored the dignity of the ghazal with his lively poetry and the ghazal “Dil Dhakane Ka Sabab Aya Yaya” sung in the voice of Madam Noor Jahan is a testimony.
Khalil Haider also got recognition by singing Nasir’s ghazal “New clothes change to where”. Nasir Kazmi died on March 2, 1972 in Lahore but his poetry still refreshes the hearts.
