The US administration has approved the sale of 16 KF-16 missiles to Taiwan.
According to US media, arms sales to Taiwan worth about $619 million have been approved.
U.S. officials have said Congress has been notified of the approval of arms sales to Taiwan, a potential sale consistent with the Taiwan Relations Act, the longstanding One China policy.
Officials say the potential arms sales to Taiwan are aimed at boosting its defense capabilities, and US moves to Taiwan are aimed at maintaining peace and stability in the region, the Taiwan Strait.
On the other hand, the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry has said that the US opposes the new package of arms sales to Taiwan.
The spokesman said that the US should stop arms sales and military contact with Taiwan.
