Karachi: Pakistan Flour Mills Association has announced the immediate suspension of production activities of all flour mills in Karachi, as a result of which there are fears of a new flour crisis in Karachi.
The owners of flour mills told Express that against the promises made by the Food Department of Sindh, poor and low quantity of wheat quota is being provided.
Chairman Flour Mills Association Sindh Region Chaudhry Aamir said that 4 flour mills in Karachi and 3 flour mills in Sindh have been sealed on false and fabricated charges.
He said that despite the supply of wheat less than the fixed quota by the Food Department of Sindh, pressure is being put on the flour mills to supply cheap flour.
He said that the flour mills will not tolerate any kind of blackmailing and from Thursday morning the deliveries of flour bran will be stopped and the sale of all wheat products will be stopped at the gates of the mills. Similarly, any new challan of Sindh Food Department will not be accepted.
Chaudhry Amir said that an emergency meeting of the association has been called today in which the joint plan for the future will be decided.
