Moscow: A Russian court fined Wikipedia 2 million rubles ($27,000).

According to the World News Agency, a Russian court fined Wikipedia for failing to delete false information about the Russian military. The articles accused the Russian military of complicity in war crimes in Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine last year and the war is still going on. Russia introduced new laws at the start of the war that imposed fines and sanctions on organizations expressing anti-Russian views on the war in Ukraine.

It also proposed fining or blocking websites that spread information that contradicts Russia’s official narrative on the war. The first application of which has been made to Wikipedia.

It should be noted that Wikimedia, the company that owns Wikipedia, was also fined for not removing baseless articles about the Ukraine war.
