Karachi: For the first time in the country’s history, the Directorate of Customs Intelligence has recovered smuggled jet engine oil in an anti-smuggling operation.
This was disclosed by Director Customs Intelligence Karachi Saqib Saeed during a press conference along with Additional Director Afzal Witto, Nosheen and Deputy Director Inam Wazir.
He said that the directorate had received a tip-off that there was dumping of smuggled goods in a warehouse located in a compound in Malir which was supplied to different parts of the city intermittently.
The directorate team conducted a regular search of this suspicious warehouse and recovered smuggled goods worth 38.9 million during raids in Rashid Minhas Road and Askari Park Gulshan Iqbal areas keeping an eye on the small trucks leaving the warehouse.
He said that for the first time in history, smuggled aircraft engine and piston oil of the American brand was recovered, after which an investigation is being conducted as to who and where is using aircraft oil in Pakistan.
Director Customs Intelligence Karachi said that 3,600 used laptops, 2,396 expensive watches, 3 tons of foreign cheese, Indian cosmetics, food supplements and food items were also recovered in the raid.
Three people have been initially arrested during the raid, whose names are being withheld due to the investigation. The directorate has registered a case and seized 4 Mazda trucks and a Suzuki pick-up used in the delivery of smuggled goods.
