Plan for rehabilitation of 20 new colleges and 15 thousand flood affected schools in Sindh is ready

Karachi: Education Minister Sardar Shah has prepared a plan to build 20 new colleges and rehabilitate 15,000 flood-affected schools in Sindh.

Under the chairmanship of Sindh Education and Culture Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah, the review meeting of the development portfolio of the School Education Department and the College Education Department was held at Karachi’s Kenji Hotel. In the meeting, Provincial Minister Sardar Shah directed to complete the ongoing development schemes soon within the stipulated period and to pay special attention to the flood affected school and college buildings and said that the most necessary action after the flood is the restoration of safe teaching process.

The provincial minister said that in the future, the structures of the school and college buildings should be made keeping in mind the environmental impact, while beautiful buildings should be constructed away from the traditional designs of the buildings to increase the interest of children in schools and colleges.

The meeting was informed that 19808 school buildings were affected due to flood, out of which 7503 buildings were completely damaged and 12305 buildings were partially damaged. 686 schools will be restored with Chinese grant and 300 schools with the support of European Union.

The meeting was also informed that a plan has been approved under the scheme of planning and development for the rehabilitation of 15000 schools for which help will be taken from the federal government. A proposal was made to the Department of College Education regarding the creation of 20 new colleges in Sindh, which will be approved under the budget of the next financial year. The meeting was informed that schemes have also been prepared for the repair and rehabilitation of more than 100 colleges affected after the floods.

It was also informed in the meeting that out of 50 schools built under the project of English medium schools and comprehensive high schools in Sindh, 35 schools have been completed and handed over to the Sindh Education Foundation, while 22 English medium schools have been completed. Teaching has been started after the completion of the construction of the school buildings.

Under the said project, the construction of two English medium schools in each district of Sindh will be completed in the first phase. In the meeting, Provincial Education Minister Sindh Syed Sardar Ali Shah directed to include plans for installing solar systems while creating new schemes for schools and college buildings.
