Australia: Although important scientific links between exercise and mental health continue to emerge, scientists have now reviewed dozens of studies and concluded that exercise is the first line of defense against mental illness.

In this regard, Ben Singh of the University of South Australia and his colleagues have reviewed (meta-analysis) 100 previously conducted research and studies. They have come to the conclusion that exercise is the first line of defense for schizophrenia, anxiety, depression and other mental disorders because exercise is both food and medicine for the brain.

Interestingly, any form of exercise is very beneficial for the brain and even protects against psychological disorders. Ben Singh says that despite the many medical benefits of exercise around the world, it has not received the recognition it needs. He urged every man and woman to make exercise or physical activity their top priority.

According to a data, one out of every eight people in the world is suffering from some kind of mental, mental or psychological disorder. Ben Singh says that depression is at the top and exercise effectively relieves it. In a meta-study, scientists looked at 97 articles from about 1,039 clinical trials involving 128,119 people.

Among these studies, 27 were on cancer patients, 11 were on people with depression, five were on dementia and the elderly, and three were on patients with anxiety and other conditions. However, many of them practiced yoga, some took to walking and some people also appeared to be doing high-intensity exercise.

Experts have come to the conclusion that there is now irrefutable evidence that exercise can at least combat anxiety and depression. The reason is that exercise increases beneficial brain chemicals, specifically, serotonin and norepinephrine.
