Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani arrived in France, he will discuss security and energy issues with President Emmanuel Macron.
The Sudanese prime minister has said he wants to stimulate agreements between oil-rich Iraq and France.
He said that he wants to take practical steps on the agreements between the two countries, especially in the fields of transport, energy and investment.
The French company ‘Total Energies’ signed a 10 billion dollar contract with Baghdad in 2021, but work on several projects is yet to begin.
Among these agreements, there is also an agreement to build oil and gas refineries that have the capacity to generate electricity, while a 1,000 megawatt power plant will also be built.
Despite having vast reserves of oil and gas, Iraq’s electricity system is in shambles and there are hours of load-shedding.
Neighboring Iran supplies about a third of Iraq’s electricity and gas needs, but Baghdad is working to become energy independent.
